In most municipalities, water from filtration plants is regulated and the water from the distribution system is regularly checked. However, it often contains substances from domestic and industrial products, such as pesticides, medicinal substances, etc.
In minute quantities, these products are not considered to be harmful, but certain specialists worry about their long-term effects. The human body does not eliminate heavy metals such as mercury and lead. Over time, these accumulate in the body with effects that can be irreversible.
Some also wonder about the interaction between certain chemicals, such as chlorine and other substances. What if they created new families of chemical compounds? Most municipalities currently use chlorine to disinfect their water even though it has no effect on viruses, for example. In fact, this type of disinfection creates an environment that supports viral development.
Health Canada however, specifies that the health advantages of chlorination far outweigh the minimal health risks that it considers these compounds to represent.
Not surprisingly, given these uncertainties, many people turn to bottled water.
